A new version of Adobe Flash Player will be deployed to Windows computers.


Touchnet Upgrade
April 4, 4:00 am – April 4, 9:00 am
An upgrade to Touchnet from version 6 to 6.5 is being performed.  This will affect the ability to process payments for the following:  Continuing Education FlexReg payments, Marketplace, T2 (Parking Garage), StarRez (Housing Payments), Admissions Fee payments, Tuition/Fees payment and Transcript Request payments.


MySam - Finance 
April 4, 5:00 pm – April 4, 7:00 pm
The Banner Finance module will be unable to conduct data processing.  This will affect the ability to access both the INB and Self-Service Finance modules.

CherwellLogoIT@Sam is preparing for the launch of a new work order system. The goal is to have this new system ready for go-live on July 8. This change is being made because the current IT@Sam Work Order System has shortcomings in navigation and in general work routing. Cherwell is geared towards alleviating these problems AND providing additional benefits for you.

NewStar Service Catalog: No more questions to answer when submitting a work order! Instead you choose from a comprehensive list of IT@Sam services when placing your request. One click puts you at the appropriate screen to enter your request.
NewStar Knowledge Base: In addition to the Technology Tutorials that we currently have, the Cherwell Knowledge Base contains “how to” fixes and instructions for both software and hardware problems. Using this tool will empower you with the ability to fix the issue on your own without having to call the Service Desk. With over 50,000 articles, and more to be added, this will be a wonderful self-service resource for everyone.
NewStar Problem Management: Once IT@Sam becomes aware of a university-wide problem, it will be posted in Cherwell along with its solutions or workarounds for everyone to see. You will no longer have to call the Service Desk to find out about a university-wide problem.

To make this transition easier, we are providing several training sessions in June. We encourage everyone to attend at least one of our training sessions listed below:

New Software for Fall 2013

IT@Sam Client Services has received requests from various faculty members to upgrade several software packages before Fall – 2013. These upgrades may have an impact on academic instruction since textbooks and curriculum are planned far in advance.  Please review the planned changes to campus software versions below.  Please share this information with the faculty in your department and let us know if there are any concerns with the proposed upgrade software versions or dates of installation.  The software titles listed below are not all encompassing of the software being upgraded before Fall 2013, as there may be additional software that only impacts your department and those will be handled individually with the faculty requesting the upgrade.

Adobe Creative Suite CS 6
Upgrade for all classrooms and labs scheduled between Spring – 2013 and Summer I – 2013 for both Windows and Macintosh.

SAS 9.3
Upgrade of existing SAS 9.2 to 9.3 for Windows computers on campus.  An expanded license agreement has been completed which will allow for SAS to be installed in all labs and classrooms on campus with optional installs available for faculty computers via the SHSU Program Installation Menu.  Upgrade is scheduled between Summer II – 2013 and Fall – 2013.

Microsoft Office 2013
Upgrade for all campus Windows computers scheduled between Summer II – 2013 and Fall – 2013.

Autodesk 2013 (AutoCAD, Revit, Inventor, Electrical, and Mechanical)
Upgrade for all campus Windows computers scheduled between Summer II – 2013 and Fall – 2013.

Windows Workstation Patches 4/13

Windows workstation patches will be released on 4/13. Some of these patches may require your workstation to reboot. Please be sure that you save all work and log out of your workstation before you leave for the weekend.

IE8 to be released to campus 10/28/11

On Friday, October 28, Internet Explorer version 8 will be released for domain PCs. Test groups have not reported any problems with software on campus so this should not cause any disruption to normal operations. If you run into a website or software plugin that will not work, try running in Compatibility View.

To run in compatibility view, click on the Tools menu and select Compatibility View. To turn this option off, go back to the Tools menu and deselect Compatibility View.

Internet Explorer Update 1/21/2010

Internet Explorer users,

In response to the recent public disclosure of several vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer, Microsoft has released an update. See the Microsoft Security Bulletin and Microsoft Security Response Center web pages for further information.

We have released this update to campus. The update will install and your PC will reboot to apply the patch tonight. Please ensure that you log out of your computer when you leave for the day.

Brief System Downtime 1/15/2010 @ 6pm

The SHSU computing systems and telephones will be down briefly on Friday evening at 6 pm. This outage is needed to strengthen the campus information security system with firewall upgrades.

As previously mentioned in our March 2009 update, there were some concerns with the use of unencrypted passwords when accessing Nell. Our first step was to remove CRT and direct all users to SecureCRT. Now we are ready to remove QVT which also makes use of unencrypted passwords. Therefore as of Oct 9th, QVT will no longer be available. You will need to begin using SecureCRT to access Nell which can be accessed through Start, All Programs, SHSU Programs, Communications, CRT, and Nell-Secure. Any old shortcuts on your desktop to QVT will need to be removed manually by you as they will no longer work for you. You can do this by right-clicking on the shortcut located on your desktop and selecting Delete. If you need assistance in removing these shortcuts, creating new ones or accessing Nell using SecureCRT, please contact the Helpdesk.

FileZilla FTP Software

As previously stated in the August IR update, we have done away with the old FTP software, WS_FTP, and replaced it with the new FileZilla FileZilla has been deployed to all computers on our domain except for the computer labs. Those users wishing to install the software can do so by following the instructions below.

Install Instructions:
*Click on Start, then Control Panel.
*Click on Add/Remove Programs, and then Add New Programs.
*Under the Add programs from your network list, click on FileZilla and then the Add button.
*The program will then be listed under Start > All Programs > SHSU Programs > Utility(s).

FileZilla is very similar to the older WS_FTP program, so usage of the new program should not be too different. If you have any trouble using the new FileZilla software please follow the guides we have created on our Technology Tutorials page:
