Graduating this Fall?
You are required to submit an Application for Degree to the Office of the Registrar. If you do not intend to graduate in December, please disregard this email.
The deadline to submit an Application for Degree and fee payment is:
Monday, September 26, 2011.
Students are encouraged to submit the Application for Degree included with this notification: Application for Degree Form – PDF.
The Application for Degree may be submitted to the Registrar’s Office by e-mail or by fax at 936-294-1737. Upon receipt of the form, the application fee will be applied to your student account and you should pay your account through My Sam or in the Bursar’s Office on the first floor of the Estill Building. Application fees may take up to one business day to process and appear on your student account.
How much is the Application Fee?
- The application fee is currently $30.00 for all degree candidates. The fee is non-refundable and may not roll forward to a future term. A degree will not be posted without the Application for Degree on file in the Registrar’s Office.
- Late applications are assessed the fee of $60.00 (additional $30.00 for late applications is assessed). It is best to submit your Application for Degree by the set deadline date.
Students who submit Applications for Degree after the names have been submitted to the press for the commencement program will NOT have their names appear in the program. The names of degree candidates are provided to the press well in advance of the commencement ceremony date.

What if I fail to submit my Application for Degree?
Students who do not submit an Application for Degree will NOT have their degrees posted to their academic transcript, nor have their names included in the commencement program. It is very important that students abide by the published deadline date of September 26th, in order to be considered a degree candidate for December 2011.
What does my degree application fee cover?
The degree application fee covers the cost of printing your diploma, the diploma tube received at commencement, postage expense, as well as other costs incurred to host a commencement ceremony.
How do I order my cap and gown?
The official Sam Houston State University graduation apparel is available only through the SHSU University Bookstore. Click here to order your official cap and gown: SHSU Regalia.
Orders must be placed by November 4, 2011, for December 2011 graduation. Robes and regalia will be ready for pick up at the University Bookstore in the Lowman Student Center beginning December 5, 2011.

NOTE: You should be completing degree requirements for December 2011 in order to submit an Application for Degree. Students who do not meet degree requirements for December 2011 will be required to submit a new Application for Degree and also pay a new application fee.
